You might be surprised to learn that there are several free cell phone locating applications on the market and most of them work very well. Before you get all excited and think that you’re going to be able to track Jennifer Lopez with her cell phone, you need to understand that there are some restrictions that do apply.
The first of these limitations is that you need to have the cell phone in your possession in order for you to download and install a cell phone tracking application onto it. There are two reasons for this. The first is for security to keep people from being able to track you without your permission and the second is so that the cell phone tracking application can communicate with the GPS receiver that is in your phone. The only exception to this is the Sprint Family Locator which doesn’t require you to download or install any software on it in order for it to work.
If you have a Nextel or Sprint cell phone, you can use a Sprint Family Locater and instantly start tracking cell phones that are on your service account. There’s no need to install software in order to use the Sprint Locator. Sprint does charge a modest fee of $5.00 a month to use their service and for $5.00 a month you can track four cell phones.
If you would like to start using a cell phone tracking application, you simply need to download one and install it on your cell phone. The cell phone tracking applications that are free are Find My iPhone, Glympse, MobiWee, and Google Latitude. The Find My iPhone application is free to download and install but if you want use it you’ll need to sign up for a service called MobileMe. This service will cost you $99.00 for a year’s subscription but you can try it for free for 60 days if you would like.
