Aggressive Beagles: Stopping Beagles Biting

Biting is a common problem for many new dog owners, especially with puppies who are young and do not know any better. Most of the time, biting will just be a small issue as it is very often playful in nature. A dog can appear to be harbouring aggression though when he begins biting the hands of you or other guests in your home. There are a few simple steps you can take which should end most beagle aggression problems which involve some kind of biting.

If you are dealing with a new puppy and he is beginning to show a propensity to bite, you have caught the problem at the best possible time – the beginning. This is rarely going to be a real issue with aggression and will just be your beagle puppy trying to interact with you. Basically, you just need to show your beagle that biting is an unacceptable behaviour. Use a firm tone of voice so say ‘No’ or ‘No biting’, but without actually shouting. Also be sure to refrain from playing any games which could encourage your beagle to bite you until he understands what is allowed and what is not. Most beagle biting problems with young puppies can be solved by taking these steps.

If the biting seems to be due to actual aggression, you will need to first take your dog to a vet who can check the dog for any injuries which could be causing the foul mood. He may also check for psychological problems. If these checks do not shed any light on the reason the biting then you may want to take aggressive beagles to a professional trainer who can spend some time with your dog and offer suggestions as to why he bites as there are many possible causes depending on the situation.
