3 Myths About Feather Pillows
A myth is folklore that tries to give meaning and purpose to the world around you. Some myths can be quite harmful because oftentimes they prevent people who want the truth from getting it. We don’t often think of myths as it refers to pillows but today we’ll dispel some common misconceptions that people generally have about feather pillows. Just so you know feather pillows are not the anti-Christ of the pillow world they’ve just gotten a bad wrap.
The first myth is that a feather pillow will irritate people who suffer from allergies or asthma. The people who perpetuate these myths are no doubt sellers who desire to steer costumers away from these products. The truth of the matter is that it’s the dust mites in pillows that are the culprits and not the feathers.
In fact, pillows made of high quality down feathers are hypoallergenic. Besides a simple solution to this problem would be to get a mite cover for your pillow and this would quickly solve your problem if you still wanted to buy into the myth. Did you know more than eight times as many dust mites are found on synthetic pillows than on pillows filled with natural fibers?
The second myth is that feather pillows are difficult to maintain and care for. A quality down feather pillow only requires regular fluffing, a good pillowcase and pillow protector. Because the stuffing in quality goose down pillows is from mature geese the pillows don’t lose their loft and remain soft and fluffy for years. If the feathers are of inferior quality no amount of fluffing will bring it back to life. Expect to replace cheap feather pillows often.
The third myth is that pillows that are being marketed as down pillows are filled with 100% down feathers. Many consumers are often disappointed after buying a pillow claiming to be a down pillow only to later find out that it was a blend. Feather pillows will either be all down, all feather or feather and down. All feather pillows will not be as fluffy or have as much loft as all down pillows. Make sure you are buying a high blend such as 90/10 down/feather or a 100% down pillow if what you desire is long-lasting comfort and durability.
